For years, Lovelyn Obedoza held back from leadership roles. Fearing judgment from others, lacking experience and not knowing where to look for opportunities, she doubted herself which kept her stuck in her comfort zone.
Everything changed when she discovered Uplifters and their free “Dare to Lead” courses. Developed in partnership with EmpowerU, these courses provide leadership training for migrant domestic workers to build peer support networks. From there, Lovelyn learned how to lead in a simple, practical way, pushing herself to try even when she didn’t feel entirely ready. Completing the courses renewed her sense of confidence.
Now, she facilitates the online course sessions with enthusiasm and no fear. Looking back, she now knows that nothing is too difficult once you commit to learning it. The courses taught her to start small, learn as she goes and stretch her boundaries.
“The hardest part of any journey is simply finding the courage to start,” she said.
