Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF), a registered charity, was founded by a group of the families of concerned patients, medical staff and volunteers in 1994. Working closely with the Cardiology Centre, Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine of the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital, the CHF is the only Hong Kong NGO which is devoted to supporting children with congenital heart disease and their families.

The Foundation promotes mutual help among parents and patients to overcome the challenges in facing and caring for these special children. We offer financial support for children receiving treatment, purchases essential medical equipment, organizes developmental training for these special children, provides professional psychological counseling and therapies, sponsors research on diagnosis and treatment etc.


Project Summary
Inherited Cardiovascular Disease and Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death in Hong Kong Children and Adolescent – Genomic testing and Family Screening is a programme to apply the latest whole genome sequencing (WGS) to repeat the genetic test for all children who were previously diagnosed with cardiac channelopathy, cardiomyopathy with negative traditional genetic tests. The scheme provides WGS testing for newly diagnosed children with cardiac channelopathy and cardiomyopathy. All eligible children and their parents were invited to participate in this programme, and received genetic testing counselling at the hospital outpatient clinic. With parental consent, blood samples from affected children and parents were collected and sent to the laboratory of the University of Hong Kong for genetic testing and analysis
