Mighty Oaks Foundation Limited

Mighty Oaks brings positive change by linking elders and youth to jointly discover purpose and connection through intergenerational learning and programs. We are the first NGO in HK to provide regular relationship building intergenerational programs to connect elder facilities with nearby schools for long term collaboration.

This is a time of great need in HK, with a weakened sense of belonging and community and a widening gap between the old and young. Social cohesion is one of the keys to ageing in place and our programs help to strengthen generational bonds in the family, our community and the society.

Since 2017, Mighty Oaks has successfully partnered with 59 elder facilities and 48 schools, served over 29,560 elders and 10,200 students with 13,685 contact hours.

We offer a wide range of intergenerational programs, focusing on relationship building rather than program outcomes. We also provide guidance and support to a few core schools to enable our programs to be adapted and embraced by schools for their own use. Our aim is to eventually establish an intergenerational resource center, making available a wide range of resources, materials and teaching tools for schools and elder facilities to adapt for their own use.

Project Summary
Project Sparkle is designed to foster relationships between the old and young through: art and games with a therapy dog (frailer elders); music and movement with golden Hong Kong hits (able-bodied elders); youths completing personalised life books created by Mighty Oaks, as gifts for elders; intergenerational activities inside elder facilities; elders paired 1:1 with their young buddies. This improves hand-eye coordination and slows down cognitive and mobility decline for elders. Youths are encouraged to better understand and value elders for their contributions to Hong Kong: their experience and wisdom.
